Road Trip Day 6 – Greetings from Fort Collins
Posted July 13, 2010
After a few days in Salt Lake City, we finally made more progress eastward. We are now in Fort Collins, CO. This is a beautiful town. It is Money Magazine’s 6th best place to live in the US. Today was mainly a driving day and a relaxing day… oh yeah, and some work as well. We spent most of our time from Salt Lake City to Fort Collins on the I-80 freeway. Most of the drive was through Wyoming. Let me just tell you, there wasn’t much that changed on that freeway. Everything looked the same. Here are some boring pictures from today. 🙂
This pretty much summed up the day. Tomorrow we are planning to see some more scenic things in Fort Collins. Tune in later.
Road Trip Day 5 and the rest of the schedule
Posted July 12, 2010
Just mainly a work day today. Dinner with Daniel and Irene and kids today and then went to visit some saints. Just a normal day. Okay, to answer some of the more common questions I am getting…. we are NOT in Philadelphia yet. We are arriving in Philly next Monday. Here’s a breakdown of the rest of the trip, starting tomorrow.
2 Days in Fort Collins, CO
1 Day in Lincoln, NE
1 Day in Champaign, IL
2 Days in Columbus, OH
and then we arrive in Philly.
We’ll be there for a week and then fly back to SoCal to take care of some practical matters and ship our stuff out. By the way, for those of you just tuning in… yes, we’re moving to Philadelphia. Explanation coming later or you can email me or IM me when I’m online to ask me.
Sorry, no pictures today.
Road Trip Day 4

The Lord’s Table meeting this morning was very sweet. Very small, but sweet. We watched message 11 of the Summer Training and then went out for a short drive around Salt Lake City with Daniel and one of the little ones. We mainly went to a place called Alta. This is where all the pictures are from below. Played a little basketball tonight. Overall a relaxing day. Tomorrow will be another full day in Salt Lake City but mainly a work day for me. We’ll see what the wifey does. Here are today’s pics.
Road Trip Day 3

Today was the last day of Zion. Checkout time was 11am so we decided to make the most of our park pass that we got yesterday and go for an early morning hike. We decided to take it really easy today. The weather was awesome… nice and breezy and definitely not as hot. We did two mains paths… the Weeping Rock trail and the Court of the Patriarchs. Here are pictures from today…
Now we are in Salt Lake City for three days. We’ll be just relaxing and of course I’ll be trying to get as much work as I can done. The amount of picture taking will probably be less. We don’t have very many touristy spots left on the trip.
Road Trip Day 2

Another hot day in Springdale, UT. Today we actually went into the park. Thanks to the suggestion of my dear wife, she said that we should go as early as possible. So, we woke up at 6am, give or take 30 min, had breakfast a little after 7, and went into the park. We decided to take it easy, at least that’s what we said. We decided to go to the Emerald Pools. We said we would take it easy and go to only the lower pool. Look, the middle pool is not too far away. After arriving at the middle pool, we said that we had gone this far, might as well go to the upper pool. The upper pool just happen to be a steeper hike and I realized how out of shape I was and I am not as young as I use to be. Overall, a good day. Here are some pics from the day…
Road Trip Day 1

Day 1 of road trip in the books. We are now in Springdale, UT, just a mile or two from the entrance of Zion National Park. The drive for the most part was smooth with barely any traffic, other than the 20 min slow down from a stalled car on the 15. When trying to get to Utah from SoCal, you need to drive through the desert. For most of the trip, the outside temperature reading on the Prius read 99 to 104 F. At one time, it read 111 F. Hot, hot hot. After a long week of packing and a long drive, I’m utterly exhausted. Here are some of today’s pictures.
Evolution of Tech
Posted April 27, 2010
Coming back from a huge tech conference with thousands of people it was interesting to see how tech has come a long way. It is interesting to see both the number of iPhones and also the number of people on their phones during the break times and during the times that have traditionally been networking times.
I probably saw only a handful of non smart phones and those with smart phones, probably 60%-70% were probably iPhones. I’m thinking I only saw one other person with a Motorola Droid. During lunch and during all the breaks, a good majority of people were on the phone checking back with the office or on their phone checking their twitter feeds, Facebook accounts, rss feeds, etc. These times have been traditionally to network with other people, pitch their company to new people.
I think the biggest change that I saw at this conference was the amount of laptops. It wasn’t too long ago that only a hand full of people had laptops because they were so expensive. I remember getting my first laptop… a Pentium 200 Mhz generic brand. It probably had 30-45 min of battery power. Even in the last few years, the advancement in laptops has change dramatically as well. People with laptops that were only bought a year or two ago were searching for plugs because their batteries couldn’t last that long. I even heard someone say, “Can I plug this in for a second while I swap out my battery?” Those with newer Macs or Netbooks were good for the conference.
As I mentioned before, I only saw a handful of people with iPads. I imagine, next f8 conference, there will be a whole lot more.
At f8

So I’m at a Facebook conference. Yes, a Facebook conference. When I told why I was in San Francisco to some friends, some reacted by saying, “A Facebook conference?”. Whether we like it or not, Facebook and the social media things are a big part of the web and if you have some kind of presence on the web, you need to integrate your site or branding with these social media platforms.
Facebook is announcing and showing off some new tools that will make it easier for websites to integrate Facebook into their site. You can find out all the information at on the F8 site.
I’ll do write another post on the technology I’ve seen at this conference. I haven’t been to many of these conferences but it’s interesting to see how things have changed in general. Everyone with a smart phone (mostly iPhones), laptop (a lot of Macs), etc. I’ve only seen like 3 iPads. 🙂
