Canon EOS Rebel T1i announced!
Posted March 25, 2009
After I wrote the blog post about downloading the podcast about the Canon EOS Rebel T1i, I posted an entry on the dpreview.com forum asking if anyone had seen it. No one had seen it, so I posted a link to the blog post and I saw a definite spike in traffic. Later on that night I see a blog entry from Engadget with the same screenshot that I took from the video. They had a link to my original forum post from dpreview.com. I check back about a hour later and all over the internet, Canon announces the camera. After they did, all the sites started posting their initial reviews of the camera. There was probably an embargo on mentioning the camera until their scheduled event. I’m not sure my mentioning of the CNET podcast was the reason why Canon announced it earlier, but I like to think so. All I have to say is… sorry CNET. 🙂
Here’s the video that I downloaded yesterday at around 4pm yesterday:
I didn’t upload the video to my site yesterday because I don’t have the bandwidth to host it. I didn’t post it up on youtube because they took it down on the CNET site, so I thought for sure they would take it down on youtube.
Canon Rebel T1i

I was downloading my latest podcasts and one of them was from CNET Product Reviews. The product was the Canon EOS Rebel T1i. I was like, a new DSLR. I’m always interested to see new stuff coming out.
The most interesting thing to me was specs.
Same sensor size as the 50D, 15 MP, and video mode (720p @ 30 frames/sec and 1080p and 20 frames/sec).
Interestingly enough, I tried to do a search on all the major camera sites and nothing. A search in google shows a link to the CNET video, but the video is not working online. I read in one of the forums that it is suppose to be announced tomorrow. I think CNET may have jumped the gun.
It’s an exciting announcement. We’re starting to see video trickle down to the more affordable models of DSLR’s. I know that you can do video in point and shoot cameras but there is nothing like doing video with really expensive glass.

![]() Facebook profile pictures will never be the same. This is just too cool of a site using face detection technology. Let the embarrassing and creative photos begin. |
Website: Classics in Lego – Flickr album
Posted March 11, 2009
Found this picture album by Balakov on Flickr. He basically has recreated some famous images in history with legos. The only weird thing for me on this is the expression on the lego pieces. They are all smiling even in some more somber moments of history.
Review: Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS
Posted March 11, 2009
I got a new toy. How can I afford a new toy these days? I didn’t spend anything more. I basically sold two other lenses to get this one. I basically wanted to get an overall walk-around lens and not have a few specialty lenses that I only use on occasion. I basically sold my macro lens and my wide angle lens. Parting with the wide angle was probably the toughest decision but I think it was the right move. This won’t be a very technical review but just mainly my experiences with the lens compared to lenses I have owned in the past.
the Great Park Balloon – grounded today
Posted March 5, 2009
Every time I come home from work I always see this huge orange balloon floating in the air. Of course, it’s the Great Park Balloon just down the street from my house. I attempted to go on it a few times but I’ve gone when it was raining or too windy. Today was no exception. Grounded due to some wind. I decided not to wait to see if the winds calm down. I did run into Phoebe and little Zoe and they decided to wait a little. Hopefully they had a chance to go on. Of course, my main reason is not to go on some ride but to get some pictures of the balloon and high up from the balloon. Well, perhaps another week. I saw some clouds so of course I had to take some pictures HDR style.

I was just listening to my favorite photography podcast, Twip Photo, and they were interviewing a photographer from Iceland, Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir, who got very popular in Flickr with her album, “multiplicity.” I thought it was a cool concept and I just wanted to give it a try. Of course, I’m not that artistic so I decided to start with something simple.
Check our her website and the multiplicity page on Flickr.
Going old school
Posted February 11, 2009
Okay, I know Crystal already blogged about this a few months ago but I just had to put it up on my blog as well. One of my projects is to go through old photos and digitize them. That’ll take a long time.
The Super-Secret Spy Lens!

I totally want one of these. I love taking candid shots, but one thing that I feel uncomfortable doing sometimes is taking candids of people I don’t know. Sometimes, those are the best kind of shots you get because they are usually more natural that way. With this thing, no one will know you’re taking a picture of them. Feel free to buy me one at Photojojo.
What’s behind the screen?
Posted February 6, 2009
I just found an old picture that I took about a year ago. I thought this effect was pretty cool. I found the tutorial here. I remember seeing some flickr groups on it as well, but I can’t seem to find it anymore. I also tried to do it with two screens before but it was slightly off so it didn’t look as good. Enjoy.
