Patrick’s Vlog 46 – Exploring Philadelphia with the Insta360 One X
Posted July 17, 2019
In this vlog, I explore Center City in Philadelphia with my friend Karen. This entire video was shot on the Insta360 One X and edited using the Insta360 One X App using my iPad and Final Cut Pro X on my Mac. All the panning and a lot of the hyperlapse effects were done on the iOS app.
My digital camera history (2016 Edition)
Posted August 15, 2016
About 7 1/2 years ago I wrote a blog post that outlined my digital camera history. Since that time, I’ve gone through a good number of digital cameras. At certain times, I owned more than one at a time because there was a period of time where I thought I was going to get more into wedding photography. I actually owned the first three cameras listed below at the time I wrote the first blog post but I didn’t list them in that post because I was currently using them. Now that those cameras are history, they are included in this 2016 edition.
My Y Combinator Experience
Posted December 1, 2014
After flying cross country, with one layover, and a 30 minute delay to my final destination of San Jose, my short journey had begun. This was the journey to convince a small room of people that they should help fund our project. Oh yeah, did I mention, we had 10 minutes to do it? We were here because we got past the application stage of Y Combinator and were given the opportunity to present our new start up company. After the interview process was done they said they would either call us to say that they would like invest in our company or they would email us telling us why they had turned us down. Spoiler alert! We received an email around 6:50pm PST. At least the wait was over and it came quickly.
Selling Yourself
Posted June 20, 2014
One of the things I love about going to the coffee shop is overhearing conversations. This one in particular caught my attention in not just what was talked about but in the way things were presented. As a freelance web developer and as a part time photographer I often have to try to sell myself to a potential client and give them reasons why they should hire me. As a web developer I can show websites that I have worked on. As a photographer I can show them my portfolio. There are other jobs that require more selling and convincing. In hearing this conversation, I don’t know if I was sold.
Body Language
Posted June 9, 2014
I decided today that I would go downtown to do some work. As a freelancer, I basically work from any coffee shop with a decent internet connection. My favorite coffee shop is Good Karma Cafe. I like going to the Society Hill location, which is quite a journey, but if I’m going to be there the whole day, I might as well go to one that I feel that I can get a lot of work done. My journey involves taking the trolley, switching to the subway, and then walking another 3-4 blocks.
As I was waiting at the trolley stop, I began to observe this young lady and the way she carried herself. Watching her, I realized that the way we conduct ourselves and our body language can really cause people to judge or make assumptions about who we are or wonder if there’s anything going on in our lives. It is human nature to judge people, which doesn’t make it right, but regardless, we can’t help ourselves some times.
Editing Photos with a Mobile Device
Posted June 6, 2014
One of my favorite things to do on a mobile device (phone or tablet) is to edit photos. I was wondering how editing on my mobile device would match up to editing photos on my computer. I used two different apps on my iPad Mini, Snapseed and iPhoto. On my Macbook Pro, I used Lightroom 5. I took a single photo and brought it into each of these programs. Transferring photos from my camera to the iPad Mini was easy thanks to my Eye-Fi card.
Yet another homepage update
Posted June 4, 2014
It’s that time of the year again where I start to get tired of my own homepage and do a redesign. This time, I think I will stick with this one for a while. My next focus will be to do an ambitious redesign of my blog using the same templates. My focus will be on larger images and larger fonts. This means that I’m going to attempt to blog more. Stay tuned, all 3 of you out there. 🙂
